Port Charlotte SC:01 2012 is an exceptional heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich Distillery, showcasing the remarkable influence of local barley and Sauternes wine cask maturation. Distilled in 2012 and matured for 9 years, this distinctive limited-edition release was conceived, grown, distilled, matured and bottled entirely on Islay, reflecting the distillery’s commitment to provenance and island character.

Produced using 100% Islay-grown barley from the 2011 harvest, cultivated by seven local farming partners within ten miles of the distillery, the spirit was malted to 40ppm before distillation. Its complex maturation brings together three parcels of whisky initially aged in sherry butts and first- and second-fill American whiskey barrels, before being transferred into carefully selected first- and second-fill Sauternes wine casks from Bordeaux.

The result is a beautifully layered single malt, combining honeyed sweetness, coconut, fudge and delicate floral notes with rich fruit and Port Charlotte’s unmistakable barbecue-style peat smoke. The influence of Sauternes adds elegance and depth, creating a compelling balance between sweetness, oak and powerful Islay character.
