Few names generate as much excitement among whisky collectors as Port Ellen. Closed in 1983 and revered as one of Islay's most legendary lost distilleries, independent bottlings from Port Ellen have become highly sought-after, offering a rare opportunity to experience whisky from a truly iconic distillery.
This exceptional release was distilled in 1983 and matured for 33 years in a single bourbon hogshead, cask #16055, before being bottled in 2016 by respected independent bottler Malts of Scotland. The long maturation has allowed the spirit to develop remarkable complexity while retaining the distinctive coastal and smoky character that made Port Ellen famous.
Bottled at a powerful natural cask strength of 57.1% ABV, this whisky delivers an intense and authentic expression of the cask. The bourbon hogshead maturation brings elegance and balance, complementing Port Ellen's signature maritime peat smoke with layers of citrus, vanilla, oak, and subtle sweetness.
With an outturn of just 249 individually numbered bottles, this is an exceptionally rare release from one of Scotland's most collectable distilleries.
