The Macallan Concept Number 2 is the second release in The Macallan's distinctive three-part Concept Series, launched in 2019 exclusively for the global travel retail market. Inspired by the creative relationship between whisky making and music, this limited edition brings together two passions of Macallan Whisky Maker Steven Bremner, an accomplished whisky maker and avid house music DJ. Drawing parallels between composing music and crafting single malt whisky, the expression celebrates the art of combining individual elements to create something beautifully harmonious.
Matured in a carefully selected combination of sherry-seasoned American oak casks, Miguel Martin sherry casks and ex-bourbon barrels, Concept Number 2 offers a rich and layered character. Aromas of toffee apple, vanilla, warming oak spice and blackberry develop alongside delicate notes of nutmeg, rose water and pistachio. The palate reveals sweet toffee, dried apple, almond and cinnamon, complemented by gentle wood spice, leading to a smooth, medium-sweet finish with lingering hints of toffee and spice.
Bottled at 40% ABV, this discontinued travel retail exclusive forms part of The Macallan's completed Concept trilogy, making it an appealing addition for collectors seeking to assemble the full series or acquire one of the distillery's more unconventional releases. Its distinctive music-inspired presentation and creative approach to cask selection give Concept Number 2 a particularly recognisable identity within The Macallan's modern collection.
