Kura The Whisky

Produced by the Helios Distillery in Okinawa, Kura The Whisky offers a distinctive take on Japanese malt whisky from a producer better known for rum and traditional awamori. This blended malt (labelled as “pure malt”) reflects Helios’ occasional but intriguing ventures into whisky-making.

Unusually for a Japanese expression, Kura is notably peated, delivering a smoky profile that sets it apart from the typically delicate style of the category. The result is a characterful dram with a balance of gentle sweetness, soft malt and lingering peat influence.

Bottled at 40% ABV, it presents an accessible yet distinctive introduction to a lesser-known corner of Japanese whisky production, combining heritage, experimentation and individuality.
