The Second Red Rose is a distinguished 2021 release in The Balvenie Stories Series, revisiting a much-loved chapter from the distillery’s past.
Inspired by the original Balvenie Rose — a Port-finished expression known for its distinctive blush hue — this 21-year-old single malt honours both history and craftsmanship. The name itself references the symbolic rent once paid by Margaret Douglas to King James II for residing in Balvenie Castle: a single red rose.
For this modern interpretation, Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE selected Australian Shiraz casks for the finishing period, introducing a vibrant and fruit-laden dimension to the whisky while preserving the elegance of long maturation. The result is a beautifully structured 21-year-old single malt with depth, richness and a subtle rosy glow in the glass.
