Waterford Lakefield 1.1 is the inaugural release from Waterford's acclaimed Single Farm Origin series, showcasing the exceptional barley grown by Seamus Duggan at Lakefield Farm, County Laois. Crafted from Irina barley harvested in 2016, this limited edition Irish single malt was matured for over 3 years and 7 months in a carefully selected combination of first-fill, virgin American oak, and virgin French oak casks, highlighting the influence of both terroir and cask on the final whisky.
The diverse cask maturation creates a rich and complex profile, with notes of apple crumble, stewed rhubarb, and clove complemented by hints of freshly baked bread, chocolate, warm custard, and gentle oak spice. The palate is beautifully textured and balanced, leading to a long, smooth finish with lingering orchard fruit and sweet spice.
A superb introduction to Waterford's pioneering Single Farm Origin philosophy, Lakefield 1.1 demonstrates how exceptional Irish barley and meticulous cask selection combine to create a whiskey of remarkable character and individuality.
