There is evidence that the distillery first started operations sometime before 1791, but Glenfarclas was first granted an official licence in 1836. Glenfarclas is one of the very few remaining independent, family owned and managed distilleries. The story of Glenfarclas is as rich and colourful as the whisky that bears its name, a story of the Grant family, who since purchasing the distillery in 1865, have been united in the creation of the perfect Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky. By using the finest ingredients, combined with traditional distillation methods, the unforgettable flavour of Glenfarclas is created. The Glenfarclas range of traditional Speyside single malts includes the 10, 15, 21, 25, 30, 40 Years Old, and the distinctive 105 Cask Strength bottled at 60% ABV. Glenfarclas is renowned for its full bodied, smooth, and heavily sherried style. The distillery has six stills which are the largest on Speyside and are heated directly by gas burners. Normally four stills are used for production with two kept in reserve. Approximately 68,000 casks are matured on site, in traditional dunnage warehouses, with stock from every year from 1953 to the current year. Since 2006 Glenfarclas has been distributed in the UK by Pol Roger Ltd. In 2008 the company began sponsoring horseracing with the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase at Cheltenham.
