One of Scotland’s few independently owned and managed distilleries, The GlenAllachie is led by industry veteran, Billy Walker, who boasts an almost 50-year tenure in whisky. Nestled at the foot of Ben Rinnes, the distillery lies at the heart of the Speyside, with a focus upon quality over quantity. Spanning 16 on-site warehouses holding over 50,000 casks, the passionate team at The GlenAllachie have complete control of the end-to-end maturation process, giving them the freedom to make decisions for all the right reasons.
The water to the distillery comes from dam heads over two miles from the distillery. Henshead and Blackstank flow into Beachshach Burn, which supplies the water directly to the distillery, and sits on the North East of BenRinnes.
Whilst GlenAllachie, we have the capacity to produce four million litres of alcohol they actually only produce 500,000 litres. Reducing production volume has enabled the distillery the luxury of time for a longer fermentation of 160 hours, allowing them to truly discover the character of the new make spirit.
In an era of mergers and acquisitions guardians of GlenAllachie are proud to have bucked this trend by taking GlenAllachie private and making it one of the few independently owned distilleries in Scotland. The GlenAllachie team make decisions for all the right reasons – with the quality of their whisky always being the top priority!
