This North British 55-Year-Old - XOP Extraordinary and Ridiculously Rare, is a 55-year-old North British single grain, distilled in May 1962 and aged in a single refill hogshead until June 2017, when it was bottled with an outturn of just 221 bottles.
Nose: rich spices, butterscotch and orange zest, but also plenty of butter and a whiff of marzipan.
Palate: Intense Vanilla, Spiced Caramel, Honey, beeswax and brown sugar. A touch of menthol and liquorice too, as well as oranges and apple peel.
Finish: This is where it really shows its age, as it turns quite oak-y and a touch dry. Plenty of spices.
